epitome of incomprehensibility I've older examples too, from Anne of Green Gables again, the Big Bang Theory, and of course Ulysses; but here's last night's:

When Anne Shirley and Diana Barry (from Anne of Green Gables) return to Avonlea as precocious college graduates, both age 16, with new hats and confidence and such, there are two things I wonder:

A) What great things will they accomplish?
B) When will they ever realize that they're really in love with each other, not with Gilbert or Fred???

(Besides, I don't think it sends a good message to young girls that they can smack a boy over the head with a slate and and make him fall madly in love. No, no, seriously. Plus, Anne/Diana forever!)

e_o_i J. K. Rowling spelled "sleepless" as "insomnless" in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which led to the Harry Potter books being bought by Marvel Comics. Now, instead of Harry Potter as the hero, there's a 12-year-old girl named Justine, just Justine, who can fly and dodge around things easily, which is how she escapes from Voldemort in an abandoned business building. Of course, she can't actually kill Voldemort, or else there'd be no villain for the next installment. 141111

e_o_i The school in Roald Dahl's Matilda is a combined elementary and high school and I'm Matilda's 14-year-old mentor. The place is horrendously strict, except for one thing: students are allowed to climb whatever they want, whenever they want. I'm hanging out with Matilda in a barn which is part of the school for some reason, and she's climbing up a series of brightly-coloured ropes. She's planning some prank involving underwear but I say I can't do anything that involves underwear, because the police might say I was "corrupting a minor."

Then the whole thing turns into words on a page and I'm whisked to another scene: a tech presentation with my friend J. and two men, who were going to be Jian Ghomeshi (because he is two people somehow), but she kicked him out and replaced him with authors Joey Comeau and David Futrelle. Unfortunately, this never happens because the writers get accused of anti-Muslim comments. What happened is they posted a video of themselves playing a Transformers video game and made jokey comments upon seeing two giant robots dressed up as Sikhs and another as an Orthodox Jew - so the comments weren't really anti-anything, just mocking the idea that Transformers follow human religions.

(The previous one was the night before last. This was was last night. And the past couple of days I've been writing and boring-things-doing more than Internet-browsing or even fiction-reading. I guess this stuff gets stored up in the mind and then lets loose in weird dreams like these.)

e_o_i Of The Chronicles of Narnia. It's been a few years since the first book and the older sister Susan is engaged, but her fiancé tries to forbid her two younger siblings from going on adventures.

She's sitting in bed, sorting through mail. This represents courtship.

Her sister Lucy thinks that romantic partners from further-away places will be more conducive to her and Edmond's adventure-going. "What about that nice young man from Poland? I thought you had some sort of understanding."

Susan doesn't seem to know anyone from Poland, but she remembers Yaho. The dream gives me his name and appearance: a brown-skinned man with a mop of straight blond hair who smiles kindly. He's a world traveler and seems to be Indigenous from another continent, Australia maybe, but he may just be from another world. And maybe their break-up has embittered her to the idea of universe-hopping.
