squirrel
newme another one came down the chimney at 2:40something am today this night this morning i snugged the white scrap piece of ikea bookshelf board which covers the broken glass door with about two hundred various old magazines stacked tight to form a barricade and i sat and i waited for an hour or more while the squirrel quieted down inside the fireplace there now i hope it's gone back up and out and doesn't sneak into the room somehow while i'm sleeping if it's still there in the morning afternoon i'll have to remove the magazines to trap it in one of the cat cages i feel so bad for it because i yelled at it to scare it back while i got the magazines in place to keep it from pushing the white board cover over 040716

Sonya There was this one time when I was standing in the parking lot about to get into my (now old) car.

There was this huge towering pine tree right on the edge of the parking lot and I saw 2 squirrels chasing each other as they were climbing up the tree trunk. I don't know if it was mating season or one of them stole the other's acorns, but they kept making this insane "KWEE KWEE KWEE" noise.

Ever since then I've started to think squirrels are really cute but quite capable of evil...mainly hugging one's face in terror.

APRicochetMVP they're everywhere on campus. one of the many things i miss about school. the squirrels here are few and tiny. not like the ginormous and numerous ones in chapel hill. 050703

raze last_night, in a dream, i was one.

i sat in the waiting room of a walk-in clinic with one of my brethren. we came to understand that an ally of ours was about to be euthanized when he thought he was coming in for a routine checkup.

we took it upon ourselves to rescue him. our efforts were complicated by the knowledge that this was a world in which our kind were outlaws. we weren't just considered pests. we were persecuted like petty thieves.

we did our best to avoid being seen while exploring the grounds. i lost track of my partner after rounding the first turn. an old wooden door led me to a room in which a dentist and his patient both greeted me warmly.

i apologized for the intrusion. the dentist told me not to worry about it. his voice made a strange sort of muffled music. almost like his throat was trying to swallow the sound.

i shuffled through a vast hallway, reluctant to open any other doors for fear of what might be waiting for me on the other side. a staircase was scarred by a plywood plank hammered into one of the lower steps. i descended the fourth floor to reach the third and found i could levitate.

a man stood behind me. he considered claiming me as his own but lost interest once he learned i had a name.

"you already belong to someone else," he said.

i found unexplained caramel-coated rice crisps in my left hand. i popped one in my mouth. it tasted exactly like a mr. big chocolate bar without the chocolate.

i could sense that the squirrel who was in danger had been found and brought back home, but i couldn't find the exit to free myself.
