raze i haven't taken in every cinematic variation on the legend of robin_hood that's ever been cobbled together. but i've seen a few.

i think i used to like the disney version best. the one where all the characters were anthropomorphic foxes and lions and bears.

after that it was "prince of thieves", with kevin costner's disappearing british accent, alan rickman's glorious scenery chewing, and the histrionic love song bryan adams sang when kate_bush wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot-long larynx. though i think there's an argument to be made that the nintendo game designed to capitalize on the film's success is better than the film itself. you could spend half a day immersing yourself in that perspective-shifting shit and it wouldn't be time wasted. and, of course, there's the mel brooks piss-take "men in tights".

these_days the robin hood that feels truest to me is sean connery in "robin and marian" — a man who's outlived his mission but is too proud to admit it, and who loves as fiercely as he fights, even when it's clear he's marching straight into the dark maw of almost certain death. the script and pacing aren't perfect. it doesn't matter. give me characters i can care about, and i'll forgive almost anything. cinematically speaking.
