raze file this under "embarrassing and weird_confessions".

i have this bad habit of opening a new browser tab so i can do, read, or search for something and forgetting to close it, or leaving it open because i want to return to it later, and then doing that again, and again, and again, until i have so many tabs open it's hard to tell what's what anymore.

i've tried to clean things up. i've tried to keep it simple and close whatever tabs aren't in use. sometimes i can make it work for a while. but the browser clutter always comes back.

i guess it's sort of like what used to happen with my dresser. i would throw a cd i meant to listen to or a book i meant to read in front of a glasses case. i'd add a few more things to the pile without thinking about it. one day i'd look up and i wouldn't be able to see the wood for the mess, and it would take me half a day to find a place for everything that wasn't where it should have been.

right now i have forty-four tabs open in chrome, including:

- my gmail inbox

- fourteen blather-related tabs

- an online emulation of the nintendo tennis game i still play sometimes

- a haunting bandcamp daily article written by matt mitchell (i read it a few nights ago, but i need to read it again)

- a new yorker article about harry crews (haven't read that one yet)

- a list of all the brian evenson books published by coffee house press

- fifteen youtube videos, including bruce springsteen doing "thunder road" live in 1975 at the hammersmith odeon (insanely fucking good), the full hour-long set tori_amos filmed for VH1's "storytellers" in 1998 (also insanely good), a random dark ambient playlist, an mgmt video i bookmarked eons ago and still haven't watched, the pool hall shootout scene from "carlito's way", and jim breuer impersonating joe pesci and jack nicholson

- a wikipedia article about lynne frederick (peter sellers' last wife, who deserved better)

- a few old google searches for things like squirrel calendars and songs i was trying to find with only a key phrase or two to go on

- a reddit discussion about darren aronofsky's "the wrestler"

as soon as i finish blathing this, i'm going to force myself to close all but a handful of those tabs. i'm going to see if i can keep things pared down for a while.

i give it about a week.
