citizenship_lost
pete it seems that at least dozens, if not hundreds, of people are technically not canadian citizens even though they may have spent almost their entire life here. according to a 1947 law, which went off the books in 1977, if you spent your 24th birthday outside the country your citizenship vanished. american paranoia, this passport cafuffle in particular, is causing more of these faux-citizens to apply for their passports, which results in them being told by the dutiful bureaucracy that they are nothing. the government is working on a work around, to fast track the immigration process for these individuals. 070124
