cocoon I keep hearing that this is happening to a bunch of people I know.
And it makes me smile, because we're having such fantastic weather here.

jinx It's a bad day.
It's a train ride.
It's a bad day.
You're my medicine
It's a snow day.
It's a full moon.
It's a snow day.

When'd you get down to my bones?
Where'll I find that wishing stone?
The beads, the records,
All the calls, and the drinks alone.
First by mind, then by music you'll make this all less confusing.

It's a slow dive down,
A fast distraction,
A strange fall forward
My lame reaction.
It's a bad day.
It's a long ride.
It s a bad day.
You're my medicine.

It's a sinking feeling,
Pulls me through the seat of chairs.
When will you come rescue me,
Find solace, and then take me there?

You'll say, "You re not too tired for this life,
And it's not gonna matter if you fall down twice.

You're not too tired for this life, and
It's not gonna matter if you fall down twice. "

When'd you get down to my bones?
Where'll I find that wishing stone?
The beads, the records, all the calls, and the drinks alone.

It's a bad day.
Two miles to go.
It's a bad day.
You're my medicine.

You'll say, "You're not too tired for this life,
And it's not gonna matter if you fall down twice
You're not too tired for this life, and it's not gonna matter if you fall down twice.
You're not too tired for this life, and it's not gonna matter if you fall down twice.
If you fall down, if you fall down."

You're my medicine.

flowerock I'm a desert child... snow days never existed unless I was visiting my family in Minnesota. The snow is different when you don't "live_in_it", I think. Meanwhile... here it was clear and sunny, wry enough to wear a single layer of clothing and sandals. 150203

past there was a flurry of messages on the group chat:

-they didn't cancel the buses so much when i was young!
-it's not even doing anything out there!
-what are we supposed to do?

the last, perhaps, was easiest to answer: walk your kids in. this group was formed by a sprawling network of chance encounters at the park and includes upwards of thirty adults (only a handful of whom are active) with kids under 5 living in two closely connected neighbourhoods, with 3 elementary schools and 2 highschools across the 2 biggest boards in town.

the second question is also easy. it's clear now, but have you tried to drive 30-odd kids home in a big yellow bus during freezing rain? there's been a policy shift. end of day forecasts matter. cancelling buses while kids are at school is arguably worse because it forces more people out. but there's also a driver shortage, the forecast could be cover for an increased tempo of the slow collapse of the network.

the first question, it turns out, is also easy. the person grew up in a slightly milder climate where the weather we get here was rarer. but even still, in this climate belt when i was younger it got cold and stayed cold. radical temperature swings happened, but didn't cross the magical freeze_thaw threshold. it's ice, not snow, that's the real danger in a city. (i didn't grow up here either, but snow was dangerous for bus drivers picking up farm kids. you do not want to get stuck in a snow drift with 30-odd kids on the side of a highway.)
