Blather_synchronicity that this popped up in my three_words; I was just thinking about writing about this topic. Specifically, how my mother sees my "morbid" strain of humour as an affront to others rather than just a style of comedy and sometimes a stress-lessener for myself. Like today, when I said something cheery about not hitting people in the face anymore (re "reunions"), I meant to poke fun at my own issues and put on a brave (and nonviolent) face. I didn't mean to upset her. But the thing is, even if she's around me a lot, she only sees some facets of me. As anyone would, whether they're related or not. As I do with her. And it's true that dark humour and mockery were also weapons in my teenage arsenal to bother her and others. Others = the brother, the father. Many moons ago, when I was trying to explain that earlier family dynamic to David, he insisted, "I don't think you were really as bad as you think you were. Anyway, you were bothering them with morbid jokes because they'd react to them. If they didn't react, you wouldn't have done it." "For the second point, maybe, but I shouldn't have said a thing *because* it bothered someone." I stand by this. That behaviour was mean and immature. But this doesn't mean that dark humour in itself is a problem. It's more how it's used. (As for the story above, I'm curious whether the forbidden fruit tea was nothing at all or merely flavourless hot water.)

mine tends to be all over the map. it stretches from the gutter to the gazebo, with all sorts of strange murals and miscellany in_between. some of the things that crack me up are pretty twisted. but without inappropriate laughter, where would we be? (don't answer that. i don't want to know.)

i know you said not to answer, but... we would be in a land without any random footstools, and that would be a sad place indeed.
