and the voices at the zoo
a mother with her children
i recognize these
turn up the volume

your funky hostel room
so fresh
cold with newness
a shop you spent too much time in
yes i like them

any more sumerian scenes?
can we pause it while the phone rings?

oh the sunlight
on the train from berlin
the world you were passing through
dreaming on a train

the train into paris
i saw a different world
a different view
you filmed the famous smile and
standing beside it
said it was my own

epitome of incomprehensibility On the highway leading to the city, "ADHS" is spray-painted in grey and white letters on the underside of a bridge. Unless some other meaning supersedes it, that's ADHD in German.

A sign near the Berliner Philharmonie says "Matrix" and advertises a party every night.

There must be somewhere to buy a sunhat in this city, but it's not in a massive grocery store that sells sunglasses and tote bags and leggings and and socks. All of these imply but do not equal the presence of hats.

e_o_i Berlin: a great place for not buying hats. (It's okay, I got a cheap one after.)

There are a frightening number of hat-selling stores near Checkpoint Charlie, once a major crossing station of the Berlin_Wall.

But I didn't want a pricey cap with JFK's head proclaiming "Ich bin ein Berliner," because I'd feel compelled to tell everyone what I know or half-remember hearing about that phrase - how the "ein" maybe wasn't as much of a mistake as some people thought, although the idea of an American president calling himself a donut is inherently funny.

Some of the gift shop stuff is in questionable taste. People died crossing the thing. Mostly people trying to escape. A few guards and soldiers. Then again, the Wall was already a big part of pop culture. Slogans were made about it on both sides or on neither. Pink Floyd played some songs. Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker kissed, and I thought one of them was Nixon for some reason. Postcards have existed for decades.
