gift
Q In English "gift" means something given freely, because of love, friendship, appreciation, thankfulness, or the like, without an express expectation for something in return.

In German "Gift" means poison.

There is an obvious connection between the two meanings when there is an implicit expectation for something in return.

Giving a gift without expecting anything in return feels a lot better because it is not tainted with poison.

Yet ironically giving a gift without expecting anything in return often provides far more in return than could have been expected if something had been expected.

Sometimes life is amazing!
