past municipal nominations opened yesterday for october, the provincial legislature is being dissolved with the writs dropping *thump* tomorrow for a vote.in june.

the latter gives me mostly fear. this is (maybe under the surface) an angry, resentful province that would eat its own if it could.

the former though, a lot of hope because despite all its flaws, i love this city, and there's actually a candidate for mayor who loves it too. but damn these amalgamated cities and their councils. so much anxiety as hope often loses, eaten by the resentment of the areas stitched to the core.

past today's the day of the provincial election. the two front running local candidates are great, it's actually a real waste of talent. i voted for the incumbent, a good kind of trouble maker, who will continue to stir up the right kind of shit if in opposition (as he'll likely be regardless of the end results) while being present and active locally.

the day threatens a pathetic_fallacy: it's cloudy now, should clear up in the afternoon (a glimmer of hope the government changes?) then rain as the polls close and results come in.

past today's the first day you can have signs up here for the municipal election (which is at the end of next month). municipalities of course being the mini-republics of this otherwise multi-crowned democracy.

the first sign i saw today: in front of my house for the mayor of our hearts. first time we ever got a sign!

past e_o_i, it looks like the caqists will be the biggest party in the assnat again.

inquiring minds want to know: do they realize how ridiculous that sounds in english, not the politics of it but just sounding out the acronyms.

past nobody said how stressful it is to really really care about the outcome. one week to go. (not that i haven't cared before, i just think my candidate has a shot, and that's new.) 221018

past so, uh, there's also american elections tomorrow. good luck american skites. while your politics seem a bit intense, and i don't understand why you elect people to a million different jobs instead of them being part of a non-partisan civil service, may your democratic rights be preserved and your candidates victorious (or at least gracious in defeat).

and, as we're seeing here today, those rights extend beyond voting! go janitors and education assistants go!

e_o_i past from the recent past: ha yes, "caq" does give off a whiff of "caca," phonetically speaking.

(explain, explain: "caca" is basically "poopoo" in French baby talk.)

About American midterms, the brother was yelling tonight that he didn't want the Republicans to win. He said at my dad, who was a bit out of patience because I'd just been complaining to him about computer problems: "Do they want to set the planet ON FIRE with global warming???"

Nothing if not dramatic. But the situation's discouraging. At least Bolsonaro is out of the Brazil presidency; other guy had corruption scandals, but isn't into hacking up the rainforest for short-term gains. Hopefully. We'll see.
