epitome of incomprehensibility

My parents are having their midlife crisis late. We're all kind of late bloomers in the family. Proof: they bought a car they can't afford (more precisely, will maybe pay for within four years). But it's an electric car, and it's very cute in an awkward sort of way. It's a teeny Mitsubishi, which is the car equivalent of a dachshund (with a smaller nose, especially since this is a subcompact - cars have noses, don't they?) And you have to plug it in after every couple of hours. It's like a computer, only you can't really use it once it's plugged in because cars are not for staying still. tl;dr: Electric Mitsubish = dachshund laptop

Mitsubishi, for goshdarn's sake. Mitsubish sounds like the name of a town in Nova Scotia.

:) See, there's Antigonish, and there's Miramichi, so Mistubish would sort of be a mash-up of the two. Also, you've reminded me to ask my brother (who's living in Nova Scotia now) whether people speak with a noticeably different accent there than in our neck of the woods. Of course accent can also be a fairly individual thing. ...I wonder what my brother will think of the car? My friend's dad, who has a mechanical engineering background, wasn't that impressed. Maybe he likes things with more grrr and grumble - machines that make lower noises seem more masculine-coded, perhaps by metaphorical extension of men's extended voiceboxes. (I wish I could be a man for a day so I could sing low. It's an enviable talent. But I'm off-topic again. Off-road metaphor, both tenor and vehicle.)

Going wildly off-topic seems to be a theme with me these days. I was watching a video where someone talked about the Russian invasion of Ukraine - I'd hate to be living in either place right now and the whole situation is scary - and he said something like "I don't want to be selfish by talking about how this will affect energy prices in the States..." ...and so I commented, "I was curious, how's the electric car / hydropower situation in your part of the country?" I also went on about electric cars with some other commenter from the Netherlands. I hope I don't come across like a new Christian convert going, "So, have you heard the good news about Jesus?" (You need a lot of infrastructure and government investment to set up a Jesus circuit. You need charging stations for your Jesuses. These things don't happen overnight.) ... By the way, Sparky is almost 6 years old now and going strong, although my parents had to borrow their friend's gas car for the trip to pick up the dog. Much faster, but they had to pay $50 for a half tank of gas - yeesh.
