epitome of incomprehensibility

The photos in the article brought it back: the red brick, the squarish set-up - plain but welcoming. It's a set of subsidized apartments for single mothers who are going to school (college, university) and I used to volunteer with kids there as a homework tutor. This was back in 2010-11, my first time round at Concordia. Anyway, there's a detailed article about it in the Montreal Gazette: https://montrealgazette.com/opinion/columnists/a-second-chance-to-make-room-for-single-mothers-in-n-d-g ...Aaaand I learned from it that the place had to shut down in 2019 because of heating and plumbing problems. But also that community groups are trying to get in running again and/or find another spot. So! Project Chance is still running, and I donated a bit to them instead of Concordia University (because, seriously, Concordia, this is my second degree with you - A LOT OF THE MONEY I EARNED ALREADY WENT YOUR WAY. BE HAPPY.) Link to their CanadaHelps profile: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/projet-chance-fondation/

*to get IT running again, gah And I won't be all newsy and linky and local all the time - that could get annoying - but I thought this was worth sharing.

(Also, I meant the Project Chance foundation is still going even though that particular location is closed.)

the pictures of belongings left behind by those who were forced to move out when everything fell apart — clothes, toys, even an upright piano gone to seed — are especially evocative and sad. and this quote struck me: "nobody wants to feel like a failure. so everybody hides, and [then when it's] too late, we pick up on the issue." respect to the people who are fighting against a broken, indifferent system to try and do some good and give help to those who need it. what's happened with the housing market in general (and we haven't been immune to it here) is horrifying.
