new_year's_eve nr it took these past couple of years for me to finally not care to do much on it. i think i still would care to do at least something, like walking to my favourite nonprofit venue and supporting it and the musicians playing, but my caring has been hopefully just temporarily postponed. have a good one, all. 211231 ... raze it's been a quiet one over here (though that'll change when the fireworks kick into high gear closer to midnight), but i've been lucky enough to spend it with some of the people i care about most, both in person and through this red place and the bonds that stretch beyond it. is it just me, or did it feel like this year flew by in a sneeze? how is it that we're only a few hours away from 2022 already? how is that number even a thing? 211231 ... epitome of incomprehensibility I was asking David the same question on the phone two days ago: whether it seemed to him that 2021 felt shorter than 2020, because it did to me. He said, "I think that's right." I laughed. "How can that be 'right'? It's subjective." "I mean, it felt that way to me too." So you've got two people in agreement, at least. I guess it depends on experience, though. For me, 2021 was busier and 2020 had more general stress, though also longer stretches of free time where I could do things like bike to Verdun and back in the summer. I guess both the stress and the free time made 2020 seem longer to me.
