raze a long-gone (though hopefully not gone forever) 'skite.

also the name of my friend adam's white cat.

he was abandoned by his first owner, left to freeze to death in the cold, because there are people in the world despicable enough to believe there's nothing wrong with throwing an animal away like a piece of trash when they decide they no longer want the responsibility of caring for a pet. he survived, but his ears had to be partially amputated due to frostbite. he found his way to the humane society, and then to adam.

he is, somehow, the friendliest cat i've ever met in my life. and i've met a lot of cats. he'll do this thing where he climbs up on you with his front legs and, when he's reached his highest point, he raises a paw like he's trying to high-five you. he did that a few times tonight, but each time i would get my hand in position to touch his, he'd take his paw back. i swear he was thinking, "ha! gotcha."

he's a funny little guy.

raze he also does this thing where he climbs up on you and kind of walks on your stomach with his front paws. it has the effect of making it look like he's giving you a massage.

but now his kidneys are failing, and he's about sixteen years old, so it was bound to happen sometime, and he's lost about a quarter of his body weight. it's some sort of cruel cosmic joke that we live so much longer than these little creatures do.

i'm not ready to stop getting those little massages yet. they're good for the soul.

raze shit.

well, there's this: i don't think there are too many cats who've ever been more loved or given a better life by their humans. you can't ask for much more than that, can you?

wherever he's gone, there's a lot more love in the place now. and a little more white hair.

raze i still miss this guy, and the way he would meow at me if i stopped petting him for a second to take my shoes off, telling me to forget about the shoes and pet him some more. 210927
