Why not dress up, even if it's your twenty-somethingth year at this? The terms are not interminable; enjoy it while it lasts. So yesterday, inspired by Breakfast_at_Tiffany's, I wore a high, sleeveless black dress with a silvery thing at my neck. Only it wasn't pearls, but a chain with a donut-shaped pendant made out of jump rings chained together. Nestled in the centre, a pink glass jewel. For cold classrooms, I put on a suit-style jacket, its black formality challenged by pink and green embroidery in the shape of flowers.

the details of the day, the plural days, are lost to me. what endures is the sick feeling of dread sewn up in the question of how i was supposed to turn strangers into allies, and what i'd have to say when called upon to speak. most of the time i settled for trying to make myself invisible.

The way I stumbled over an answer made it sound like I hadn't practiced this summer at all, let alone taken a whole class. History of Linguistics. Long but surprisingly interesting. ...and between were meals and admin work (which I won't usually have on Tuesdays, but I did today because Jack was alone in the office). In short, I'm exhausted.

I'm exhausted even without a schedule like last term. Just afternoon classes, and today just -Syntax, for which I'm a TA -TA office hours (in which no one came) -Non-Indo European Structures The last one, I'm excited about. The language we're studying is Old Egyptian! Plus Mark Hale is funny and quotable, so I've already got notes for shit_linguistics_profs_say.
