raze i still think about those mondays_with_the_lamb sometimes.

i really looked forward to starting the week with her here. it felt like we were becoming good friends. the kind that stick together, at least until life pulls them apart.

i guess things changed when she asked me to play one of her favourite songs i'd written. she recorded me with her phone without telling me and plagiarized the music instead of writing some of her own. she even had the nerve to play what she stole from me after she'd finished piecing it together. like it was something to be proud of.

when it came time for her to sing one of the songs i wrote with her in mind, she blew me off. said she wasn't feeling up to doing much of anything. i found out from facebook she went out drinking with friends that night. so she felt up to doing that much.

the next week she told me she needed surgery for a polyp and her doctor prescribed total vocal rest. a few nights later she was playing a gig downtown and screaming her guts out. a few nights after that she was doing the same thing again.

it was radio silence from there, outside of the half-assed puddle of regret that showed up in my inbox a few years after the fact. she got what she wanted, and then she threw me in the garbage so she wouldn't have to give anything back.

a lot of people did that to me before i knew her. a lot more have done it to me since. but faking a vocal injury to get out of ever having to talk to me again has to be one of the less expected lies i've been told. even after all this time, that shit hurts if i press on it.

i wish i'd recorded our four-handed version of daniel johnston's "walking the cow" when i had the chance. there was a weariness and a weight to it that seemed to predict the entire arc of our brief alliance, in sound if not in pictures.

you don't think about a thing like that until it's too late, though.

epitome of incomprehensibility That sounds like a shitty thing to do. Two shitty things, in fact.

I can understand a trade, say "I'll sing something for your project and you sing something for mine" but taking something without permission and then not doing the promised thing on a fake excuse is like stealing twice.

raze some part of my brain always just wants to understand why people do things like this. but maybe they don't even know themselves. 240118
