rebuilding_my_polish_playlist
epitome of incomprehensibility It started with the pandemic and Ariana Grande. Because I belittled her once by saying she looked 12 when she was 20, that meant I had to like two of her songs in succession - "One Last Time" after "No Tears Left To Cry." But the problem with YouTube was that it was distracting, and I wanted to listen to something while I wrote or edited.

So I went to Soundcloud and typed in "one last time," which brought on the sought-song first, plus a bunch. Now, curious or too lazy to make clicks, I would listen to my same-name playlist for an hour or more.

One of the songs was by Gromee. Now, it was a slim blip of a song, but catchy enough to make me get up and dance. When I looked up his version of One Last Time first, the app would string together similar music, and since the first one was from Poland, I'd get a bunch of Polish pop and techno-pop.

This I quickly grew to like; I wouldn't be distracted by constantly English lyrics. Some pieces were only meh, just background, but I made a couple of nice discoveries: I think Sanah has a great voice, for instance.

I bookmarked a bunch of the songs. Then, when the last laptop started failing, I went through the process of cutting and pasting bunches of links into a Word document - the one document I forgot to transfer from one machine to another.

(Or not, because the sheet music for my own Christian_Martyr was also deleted somehow. What the hell, Musescore? At least I remember it.)

I can't pull back the scarf of time, but I can dye the present's sound waves in similar colours. So the past four or so months have seen me finding and bookmarking a bunch of Polish pop music.

e_o_i Why I should edit more:

"...Ariana Grande. Because I belittled her once..."

I didn't say anything TO her, obviously, and I think "belittle" carries that connotation. Literally, I did talk about her as if I found her childish, and literarily, I can stretch the meaning of a word...but it needs to be clearer in context or else no one will know what the hell I'm going on about.

epitome of incomprehensibility Anyway, yesterday and today I was thinking, "Where's that song on my old playlist [really, set of bookmarks]? By Edna something?"

I thought I remembered the basic sounds of the name. So I googled Edna Grodniak. Edna Grodnik. Polish singer Edna Grodnik. Then, shruggingly, the suggestion "polish singers female." And vwah-la - Edyta Górniak.

Maybe less indie and more pop than Sanah, maybe less lyrical, but still I found the song "Teraz-tu" fun to listen to, and she has a cool coal-black dress with twisty turny trimmings in the album picture posted on Soundcloud. Which is important to the sound somehow. I don't know. But it's interesting how visual and auditory memories get intertwined. I remember, I remember...supplementary motor cortex? Pah, it's not that part of the brain. "Motor" means movement. But there's a specific part of the brain that puts different sensory information together. Somatosensory cortex? Something connected to that.
