past the queen dead, there's now a king. the crown passes but the Crown (with the capital C) remains unchanged. how much does it matter which body wears the philosophical jewels, or does the institution, that useful legal fiction (as it is practiced here at least, through its myriad in-right-of transitory holders) continue changeless in its distant majesty? 220908
