raze someone performed plastic surgery on a childhood friend.

i bought that circuit-bent SK1 after all, and all my anticipation_curdled into vague frustration today when it got here and i discovered what was supposed to be 4 voice polyphony seems to be limited to an unpredictable, awkward alternating 2 and 3. interesting chords are not going to happen here, unless they're layered into existence via multitracking.

best guess:
disappearing polyphony
= side effect from circuit-bending.

however. after sampling 1.4 seconds of my voice, looping it, flipping a few switches, and manipulating a moaned melody into a nightmarish industrial rhythm, i've decided i can live with the lack of polyphony if the tradeoff is sonic madness. i'll just pick up another SK1 that hasn't been tweaked, for next to nothing, and then i'll have the best of both worlds, and which world is visited when will depend on things like taste, and mood, and the texture of my brood. ing.

for a keyboard that was born two years after i was, sold for less than a hundred bucks then, and can be had for the same amount of money now, it's pretty wild what these things can do, bent or unbent.

epitome of incomprehensibility My keyboard from 2002 (If I remember correctly; it tells me it's a Yamaha, PSR 262) can't play more than a couple notes at once when you add certain beats ("styles") to which you can add chords ("accompaniment"). But this is because some of the "voices" that come with the "styles" have built-in harmony. For instance, if you're playing an F, and you plug a D-minor chord in the accompaniment, you'll hear F with D and A underneath. If the chord's D flat, you'll hear a D flat and A flat under it. So I guess it overloads its poor little thinking circuits to do multiple built-in harmony for more than one note at once.

The speakers aren't great - the sound comes out fuzzy, and it didn't help when literal-minded me tried to apply a vacuum cleaner to get the dust out - but that problem vanishes when it's hooked up to an amp.

raze you are just as polyphonic as you were supposed to be! you were only foolin'! i will now make weird ambient music with you, incorporating gloriously lo-fi vocal and ukulele samples! 140120

no reason i keep reading this as "casino ski." which strikes me as a dangerous sport in more ways than one. 140121
