i'm wondering if you caught the december 6&7th episodes of fresh air...on the 6th there are interviews with the director and screenwriter of juno! if not, you can always download the podcast...it's fascinating to hear about the whole way the film came together...on the 7th there's a review of the film...it borders on scathing but the old foge is just jealous...yet by the end he's more hopeful, seeming to realize he IS too old. nevertheless he gives ellen page the credit she deserves.

i didn't catch it, so thanks, crOwl! Ellen Page's tremendous talent aside, i'm completely enamored with the whole process that diablo cody went through (cody being the screenwriter). i read an interview she gave about a month or so ago and was pleased to find her totally crass and down to earth. i'm so happy that page was cast in the title role and can't wait to see the film. from what i've seen and the info i've gathered it looks pretty amazing (and hilarious). it opens for a limited run in san francisco next week, so i'm hitching a ride with a friend to go see it. curse not being in a metropolitan enough city! but as jane wrote in the blather book, at least we have trees. many, many trees.

oh yeah...diablo cody kept or keeps, not sure, a blog and wrote a memoir about her life as a stripper. that's how an agent discovered her talent for writing...it's funny to hear terri gross asking her questions...a bit awkward, but highly entertaining as always...in the dec 7th episode there's also an amazing interview with richard powers, who wrote, "the echo maker." it won a national book award and is about a man whose brain gets screwed up from an accident and he can't distinguish his loved ones as being who they really say they are...it's based on a real brain ailment that oliver sachs has already documented extensively...

oh yeah! i saw the book that sachs wrote all the time when i worked for a bookstore. it's [the man who mistook is wife for a hat]. interesting... must. download. podcast. and diablo cody's book is called [candy girl] and it's very funny, as her writing is very frank and witty when dealing with less than kosher situations. i got to host the release party for it at the bookstore where i worked previously, very cool. though movies are a hobby, books are my passion, so if you ever have any recommendations or insights [like those you've already offered] i'm always ready to listen.

anything by will self...i heard a piece done on him @studio360. i guess his new non-fiction book is about using walking as an insurgency against society. in the piece he was interviewed while walking from la guardia airport, through queens, and into manhattan. he's such an eloquent apeaker. i loved listening to him speak. his words were uttered as if they were scripted, with intelligent, literal thoughts flowing as smooth as water over stone...that's got to be one of my most favorite things. i'm dying to get my hands on "great apes." he has described himself as a modern flaneur.
