cicadas
Sundari Raine Brood X is emerging now, a billion huge, clueless, noisy bugs rushing out to bump into things and get run over in the street, or tortured by physics students with parabolic mirrors and the noon sun.

I babysat Colleen (who is 3, but has poor language skills) today, and the cicadas, which she now calls "sikatadas," fascinate her. The first one she saw, she pointed out to me with concern. I called it a "cicada," and she said, "potata."
