raze to instruments made of wood. i'm better at protecting them than i used to be, but from time to time they let me know they're not as happy as they could be.

spring and fall are more their speed. mine too.

past i don't have to shovel, but i tend to do it if one of the roommates haven't. it's good honest work after a day of sitting inside, and warming to the soul after trudging through snow drifts to get home. 140205

epitome of incomprehensibility Yesterday it was throwing blowing snow in my face when I went out to "run" (meaning walk-jog-walk). It was only about minus ten but it felt colder. For about five minutes after I started jogging it was hard going. I felt out of breath and ready to give up but two good things happened: the wind died down and my heart kicked into gear, eliminating breathlessness while sending warmth into the extremities. A numb thumb became painful, then warm, and cold feet toasty. My heart likes that kind of thing and it ignores winter's barbs. My skin has a thinner temper, though, and still the snow kept getting in my face.

Winter isn't kind here, but it's not exactly cruel either. Just petty.

past every block handles it in its own way. a white out here. a psychopathic pile of snow blocking the sidewalk there. perfectly calm and clear on the next. 140207

unhinged i used to 'run' (walk-jog-walk) in milwaukee when it was 20 degrees or warmer. when i first moved there, i thought the winter runners were crazy. then i tried it; endorphins mixed with cold is potent combination. 140207
