epitome of incomprehensibility

It tends to annoy me when other people say things like "X is too young / too old to do Y" when Y is a thing that doesn't have inherent age limits. But then I find myself doing it. This spring I went to a protest against the Quebec government's tuition hikes for international and out-of-province students. In Concordia's mezzanine there were also workshops before and after. I went to one organized by a tenant rights collective - it wasn't relevant to me at the time, but I was curious and there were free snacks. (Add this to the_mooching_chronicles.) Anyway, the organizer asked something like, "Do you see yourself as activists?" Someone answered "Not mainly" and he said, yes, you can do stuff without making activism your main thing and (he smiled) be a riotous, rabble-rousing anarchist. There I was sitting quietly, thinking, "Activism isn't my main thing but I'd call myself an anarchist. Anarchism doesn't have to be violent," and then in the back of my mind, a nebulous thought surfacing as something like, "You're young - you wouldn't understand these things." Like...what? Most likely he would have understood it if I'd said it. He was about twenty, not a baby. And then last night I wanted something on YouTube to watch while I was finishing up some jewelry, and I found Dead Domain live-streaming their reaction to the U.S. presidential debate. Both Joe Biden and Donald Trump were a little ridiculous. Trump made his usual pouts and grins, his words full of lies and superlatives. Biden, slightly more reasonable, still took up the "best, greatest, whatever-est" theme when talking about the U.S. He had a scratchy throat so his voice was softer, which made him seem less confident. And at one point they started arguing about golf. Irritated at the pointlessness, I thought, "Pah, maybe they ARE too old for this." But then it annoyed me when people in the chat went on and on about them being old. Maybe because age isn't the point. It's not that golf is an "old man" game. It's that golf was NOT IMPORTANT TO THE DISCUSSION. Not that I could do much better, saddled with this ADHD brain. I can handle a written argument, but being quick and punchy at talking? Nope. But there's more to life than politics. There's also romance...

(My point in that last line was that "romance" continues this discussion, sort of. A classmate claimed romance didn't really exist; I thought something like, "You're too young to make that claim - you just haven't experienced it yet.")
