three_words_on_red
raze one of the blather_quirks that's endured over the years is a fundamental difference between the blue and red home pages.

on blue, beneath the links to the "recent" and "who" lists, there's a sequence of three blathes that's randomly generated each time the page is refreshed (colloquially referred to as three_words). and at the bottom of the page, to the right of the newdream copyright information, there's a word counter that displays how many blathes there are on blue (called "words", because once upon a time there were no underscores in blathe titles).

there's also a shortcut if you ever just want to see the number of blathes without visiting blather:

http://blather.newdream.net/numwords.html

both of those functions have always been absent from red. at the bottom of *this* homepage, it just said "words" without telling us how many of them there were. and there were never any three_words here, though the two_words thread has been a worthy substitute.

earlier today, i emailed dallas and asked if there was a way to engage the word counter over here. i was just curious. when i popped in a little later and saw the number of all our red blathes was right there at the bottom of the screen, i did a double take. then i saw there were three_words on red for the first time in twenty-one years, and my brain almost exploded.

that blathe-counting shortcut now works over here too:

http://blather.newdream.net/red/numwords.html

like the script that rebuilds the html of each blathe at 2:20 every morning pst time, looking for any new links that need to be made, the script that generates the three_words and keeps tabs on the number of blathes just wasn't running before. now we really do know the_size_of_things.

these were my first-ever three_words on red:

fray, i_am_no_better. it_is_november.

that's kind of pretty, even if it's a lie. but i think the assemblage past documented over on the three_words blathe is hard to top:

with_our_eyes_wide_open, darlin'. retrospectives.

epitome of incomprehensibility I saw this yesterday and was like, "Wait, those weren't there before, were they? Were they??"

Thanks, raze! And dallas, in absentia! This is so cool!!
