We died 100 at a time Haganah armed with turrets “mowing the lawn” in a fresh attack I pulled my sister up by her spine wiped her off on my skin Remember, she said North is always Palestine & all at once I knew we were not sanctified & so I’ve been thinking this is cloud bursting this eternal thirsting for the North where all our love was wasted & I can still see her black hair desert-dancing from an unmarked grave in their New-born State (their ‘promised’ land) but for me it’s just a dry bread too tough to swallow & here we’re caught in their undertow from river to sea freedom a soot on our clothes with bones, venom, teeth in rows it may be too soon to sow silence but pour a little earth & we were never here.

Powerful wording and storytelling! ... I thought of this word a few days ago while discarding parts from the planned poetry_chapbook. How "Nakba" sounds a bit like "Nachbar" - "neighbour" in German. Hello irony, hello wavy tangent string of thoughts, like Do we blame the Germans for this? A casualty causality chain... Do we go earlier and blame the British/French? "The X people" instead of their governments. Pah. What am I doing? Exemplifying that nationalism is the problem. Nationalism and not particular nations. Remember that *no* countries are real. Or at least the ground doesn't change when the name of the place changes. In five hundred years, it could be something completely different, so let's not get too attached... (or something like this, it was a while ago and I was tired)

Humans are the problem and the solution, I fear. On a separate (but also kind of the same) topic, Trump's "jokes" about Canada becoming the 51st state are a stark reminder that borders aren't real and that is really scary.

Ugh, yeah. Yesterday, via radio, I heard him say something like "it's just an artificial line" and I thought, "OK, true, but a) that applies to all human-created borders and b) it doesn't mean you get to just buy Canada like it's a golf course, FFS." (end rant)
