ethan_in_the_powder
cr0wl just 5 year-old ethan and me on a day it snowed almost a foot. it was crazy fun watching him push through powder nearly up to his waist and so easy to teach. after lunch and before our second session, we made a book together with pictures we drew, of volcanoes and tigers. he spent so much delicate time making holes with a tiny pencil and then stringing it together. once it ripped through and he got angry with himself. it's quite interesting to hear such a little one say the word, "frustrated."

later, he told me how his aunt farted in her sleep. (they're sharing a slopeside rental) "she told me not to tell anyone," he said, "that it was our secret."

oh well. now i know.

unhinged my little autistic cousin ethan was precious with me this holiday.

'how is it going in wisconsin nikki?' his voice is slightly loud and nasally, the syllabic emphasis in odd places. i think it is adorable. he couldn't talk til he was almost four. any words that come out of his mouth are precious to me.

on new years day, we went over my grandpa's to eat like we always do. have to bring in the new year with some pork for good luck. (i ate some of my mexican veg chili culinary_epiphanies which my mother stole the recipe for now that she's having colon problems). ethan and my aunt living in the upper.

he was parked in front of his tv in his spongebob jammies. he looked out the window and noticed my dad and my uncle shoveling and catapulted off his chair.

'grandma! grandma! alan is outside shoveling. outside grandma!'

i guess he freaks out everytime he sees my uncle shoveling. i offered to take him outside just in case the guys finished up by the time we got all his snow gear on.

ethan went straight to the garage and pulled out his six year old sized shovel, but my dad and uncle had already shoveled everything.

we ended up shoveling the neighbor's driveway, patio and sidewalk all the way to the main road. the only reason he stopped is because i told him i was too thirsty, hungry, and tired to keep shoveling. he probably would have shoveled the entire neighborhood of sidewalks if i would have let him.
