tender_square i didn't bring a canvas tote in with me. the plan was to walk out with a single item: one of those heavy duty curving hangers that save space and hang multiple clothing items. but then i remembered aluminum stovetop liners for my soon-to-be tenant, to keep the new appliance looking it's best. then, i needed comet to clean a porcelain sink the previous owner allowed latex paint to harden in. and sponges. and cleaning vinegar to scrub the tiles in my bathroom. my hands were overflowing with items i then needed a shopping cart for. i found a five dollar telescoping rake in the garden section i was psyched about; last fall i used my broom and dustpan to collect crumpled leaves. then, there was a birthday card for dad. and a new word-find book he might get some use out of. i needed stickers to decorate my very late letter to jenn. i thought about the entryway and how i wanted it to look for prospective tenants: my vintage cabinet is waiting for something decorative to brighten the space. two artificial plants at the right price, one in a pot, one in a terrarium should do the trick. "i came in here for one thing," i said to the cashier. "oh, i know," she said. "i have three bags in the back i need to take home with me." i'm sorta wishing i hadn't passed on the square fabric earrings for $2.50. 230305
