raze i'm tackling this more than twenty years after the fact, because i never saw it until just_now, and why not?

1. my camera strap. i'm serious. threading that simple nylon loop through the eyelets of my dslr has made my lifeor at least one facet of itso much simpler.

2. this is wildly subjective, but mickey rourke in "the pope of greenwich village" is hard to beat. hell, mickey in anything in his prime is about as cool as it gets. as far as characters in literature are concerned, maybe virginia in elliott chaze's "black wings has my angel". she makes most other femme fatales look like caricatures by comparison.

3. right_here.

4. the seventh generation mercury cougar my dad rented for a weekend when i was a kid. i can still vividly remember listening to "outlandos d'amour" on the cassette deck when he dropped me off at my grandmother's house. i loved that car. though a few others would give it a run for its money.

5. by sharing space with good people incapable of being anything but themselves.

ovenbird 1. My great grandmother's engagement ring.

2. This is nearly impossible to narrow down so I'm going with the most recent cool character I've encountered in literature: Abitha in Slewfoot by Brom, who kicked some serious Puritan ass.

3. The sea cliffs of the Orkney Islands

4. The cherry red 1970 Chevrolet Corvette that my husband's best friend rebuilt and drove me to my wedding in.

5. I didn't. I've never been cool. I'm still not cool. And I'm cool with that.
