raze i was walking in winter half my life ago when i hit a patch of black_ice, and before i knew what was happening i was in the air. i thought i'd fall and break my neck. it wasn't the good kind of accidental flight. it didn't give me a good feeling. but my body did a funny thing. for a moment it became the body of a figure skater without the proper footwear, and it did something that resembled a double axel before returning me to the earth for a perfect landing on a square of sidewalk past the ice that made it all happen. i laughed in disbelief, collected myself, and went on walking.

i don't talk much about my figure skating past. it only lasted for a few seconds, and there was no one around to see it when it was the present and not the past. but it happened just the same.

of the work of witness
I take off my glasses
and let everything slip
on my uneven ocular surface.

Memory strikes its head
on the way down
and sees stars.
