earth. even the word sounded strange to him now. unfamiliar. we live in someone else's world. never ours. how long had he been back? did it matter? he tried to find the rhythm of the world he used to live in. he followed the current like a subway train. he was silent. attentive. he made a conscious effort to smile. nod. stand. and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. he studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. but he was haunted by the idea that he remembered everything wrong.
