milestone
epitome of incomprehensibility Last week, I finished the first third of my novel - at least the first third of this draft. Seven chapters.

I told a few people, but then it's not so impressive if you know that I reached chapter seven before and then decided to revise the whole thing.

But back then (two whole years ago, arrgh), I was more uncertain about how to put it all together. This time, I have better plans, more momentum. I think.

raze as someone who once tried to write a novel in real_time right here on red only to watch the whole thing fizzle_and_fade when i discovered i was pretty good at worldbuilding but not so skilled at sticking the landing, i'd say it's very much a milestone worth celebrating.

félicitations, et thé au pissenlit pour tous!

e_o_i Thank you!

And I like what you recorded in fizzle_and_fade. Not everything has to end a certain way, not every detail has to be recorded (but I swerve between trying to write about everything that happens to me and then neglecting to write anything about it for days).

Soma In the intro to the cozy fiction book i read recently, the author admitted he wrote an entire book and disliked what he wrote so much he wrote a whole ‘nother half a book and then also scrapped that before he finally gave up and wrote the book i was holding in my hands.

I think reaching a significant way then redoing your work is just part of the process. I have countless paintings that I’ve painted over, canvases three or four concepts deep. That’s art.
