my name it means nothin blather is so weird. I think I first came here by searching for berkeley pirate radio. and now a year or so later I forgot for a bit and couldn't figure out the coincidence that 104.1 was on here...
but seriously this place is pretty surreal........
especially at night when i should be in bed.

well pirate radio stations are too mysterious to keep track of.

did/do you broadcast through 104.1 though? I only even heard the word kcaz like once...they were playing lou reed or something.

flux that would likely be us ;)
the semantics of what kcaz was are confused. my chapter's outline is something like this:
the co_op in berkeley inherited an 80 watt xmitter and antenna tuned to 104.9 sometime in in march 2004. the previous hosts wanted to continue broadcasting even though they could no longer hold the equipment, so i cooked up a little web interface for a computer with a soundcard, which could be directed at any music on the internets, the local net, or what have you. so half the time we were rebroadcasting web radio streams, often from other pirate setups. we also streamed our own digital signal the other way. we did live shows of our own sometimes, but most often just queued up a digital playlist.
in july 2005, the fcc finally showed up, so we shipped the equipment off to another locale.
and if i hadn't been so drunk the entire time the junk was around, maybe something more would have been made of it..

flux 104.1 is just good old free radio berkeley. they're a legend as they've got permission from the city of berkeley to operate, and the fcc can't seem to shut them down.. but they do have their troubles. 070515

flux a few years ago frb was spattering noise out of band to the point that kpfa got pissed at them. a very drunken tech gave me shit for it outside of the bigfoot bar in sf for half an hour before i realized kcaz hadn't been the culprit. 071115
