raze a few pictures i wish i'd taken:

1. a boy pushing his younger brother in a black stroller. "mom," he says. "mom. push me. push my back." he wants to create a chain of propulsion, not caring or understanding that it would be easier if he had wheels instead of feet.

2. a girl with a pink hello kitty bicycle helmet baring her teeth before crossing the street, smiling with her mouth but not her eyes. a vampire waiting for her fangs to come in.

3. an old man with a walker saying good morning to everyone he sees when there's no morning left to admire.

4. a squirrel poking her head out of the hollow she calls home. a disembodied grey face ringed with periderm. we take our time filming each other with our eyes.

5. a woman lugging an army of colourful shopping bags into a fast food restaurant. the massive white letters on the cloth sack slung over her right shoulder spell out, "the best is yet to come," and her smile makes me believe those worn-out words are true, if only for an hour or two.
