epitome of incomprehensibility

Arden, a usually calm environment, cools my restless head to some degree. I sleep well here - have done so these past three days, at least. Aunt Sarah sets much of the tone: chill but not chilly. Warm in welcoming. Isaac's like that too, but also chilling: dire predictions of global warming issue from his lips. The computer screen lists disasters that might happen in California from droughts followed by something like "rain rivers" (was that the term?): winds and currents forcing rain always into the same places. That could mean mudslides, buildings wiped out. Sue comes from California. She's lived with Isaac for years - thus my habit of saying "cousins" instead of "my cousin and his partner" or the like. Like aunts and uncles coming into being through relationships; like in the old days, where in-laws got referred to by simple familial terms. Brother-in-law becomes brother, etc. For all that, I'm still sometimes awkward at communicating with her. I got annoyed at her criticism last year because it hit a sore spot: my inattentiveness. But even if it's better now, I'm still a little too anxious to please, to avoid censure. Not chill enough. Unlike the climate that humans are pushing to extremes.
