pony I remember having $80 in my bank account
and thinking I was loaded
I could go down to the store in my freedom
And buy a pack of smokes and an Arizona
like it was nothing.
What a treat.
But that was back before everything got too expensive
When you could get an Arizona for 99 cents,
And it still tasted like something.

raze the first withdrawal i ever made was to buy a guitar. i was thirteen.

i caught eric clapton strumming his martin acoustic in the hoboken terminal while channel_surfing and thought, "shit. he's fretting with his thumb. i can do that."

he wasn't. and i couldn't.

i'm still not sure how i saw what i thought i saw. but it inspired me to write one of the only real diary entries of my life. the next day i walked into a store that no longer exists, cash in hand, and snagged myself a cheap hunk of junk with six strings pulled taut across its mahogany neck.

it's all but unplayable now. it was a good friend to me when i needed one, though. it says "vantage" on the headstock. and that seems fitting. once i started to work out my own way of playing and got past the growing pains, i felt like i could see the whole world from where i was sitting.
