red_tail
raze his tail seems to get more vibrant every time i see him. i think he's as ready for winter to leave as i am, and he's showing it the only way he knows how, weaving a silent promise with the flexible extension of his backbone.

he was all by himself today. he was where he used to hang out with the rest of the magnificent_six before they all moved to the other side of the park. i hadn't seen any of them anywhere near that spot in months.

he stood in a crater near the plinth of a tree. there was a dog coming. he saw it. he was afraid, but he wouldn't run. he was waiting for me.

i think he just needs to be alone sometimes. he's the one who found little_guy. he led me to his body. he gave me a chance to say goodbye.

a few days after little_guy died, i found red tail in the tree he made his own for a while. he'd eaten with the others earlier. i wanted to give him another snack before i left.

i called his name. he wouldn't come down. he just looked at me. there was so much pain and anger and disappointment in his face.

he looked like i felt.

don't tell me these animals don't care about one another. don't tell me they don't feel just as much as we do. i know they do. i've seen it in their eyes.
