raze he meant to say something about suffering and finding a way to endure it for the sake of someone else. but it came out twisted, and what he said instead was, "the only person i would expose my hell to is you." what does your hell look like? mine is this: no peace. no rest. knowing what little i have left will be taken from me like everything else i was foolish or fearless enough to care for. only the dregs of dreams to keep me fed when i'm so_hungry i could eat my own insides and come back for seconds with blood and bone between my teeth. i don't need to imagine what shape it might take. i live it every day. 260928

ovenbird Hell is helplessness, I think. A complete lack of agency. My hell grows from an inability to alter the course of things due to constraints that have grown more complex and numerous over my lifetime. Hell is suffering without any ability to alleviate my own suffering. Hell is choosing the suffering because the alternatives lead to greater suffering. Hell is watching other people suffer without having the resources or freedom to intervene. Hell doesn’t have to be a conflagration. It can be a million tiny fires, each no larger than the flame on the end of a birthday candle. But you don’t have the capacity to blow them out. And while you know you should be grateful, you’re getting burned dozens of times a day. Small burns. Barely visible, but so painful. And then someone says, “you CHOSE this, so you have no right to complain.” And that’s hell too. 260929

e_o_i I second

"no peace. no rest."

and

"Hell is watching other people suffer without having the resources or freedom to intervene."

I'll add

Being misunderstood. Being understood too well when you don't want to be.
