where_the_wild_things_are rt the book by maurice sendak turned into a film-in-the-works by spike jonze and dave eggers... 090112 ... jane i'm very excited to see it. i've always been a spike_jonze fan, and a wtwta fan. 090112 ... gja making mischief 090113 ... for sure 090113 ... cr0wl i truly admire the guts of spike jonze to take on the daunting five year project of fleshing out maurice sendak's caldecott winning children's picture book. and yet, i realize i am a member of a tribe that is divided because the other half criticizes his effort for even attempting it. fuck you slate magazine and anyone else that dares to shit on it, you ignorant lazy bones! not since the wizard of oz has there been a film that actually gets inside a child's mind and pulls back the velvet curtain to intricately reveal the beautiful chaos that we all have known and still do if we are fortunate. i suppose it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks because the moment the film was over and maurice sendak had just finished watching it with spike by his side...he hugged him. and that says it all. 091020 ... unhinged i've seen and heard a lot of hoopla about how it's not really a children's movie. it was directed by spike jonze.....uh duh. 091021 ... ostensibly quoting "It's not necessarily a ' childrens movie' as much as it is a movie about a child" spike jonze 091021 ... n o m they had me crying by the time the igloo caved in,...but what seemed so promisingly filled with potential soon dropped off for me. visually very beautiful, but seeming somewhat lacking...magically, emotionally, i'm not sure, ..but i felt a definite lack of something a wonderful attempt indeed, but the movie was mostly disappointing to me. i did cry a little near the end, but only a little 091111 ... movie fan this movie doesn't come close to the deepness and intensity of a movie with more or less the same thematic, Tideland by the great Terry Gillian. The crappy indie music during snowball and other fights almost made me walk out of the theatre. 091111 ... other i hear you about the indie music. it turned me off being in the trailers as well. 091111 ... cr0wl i agree about tideland. i forgot about it. this film is totally inside a child's head. fucking right! 091111 ...
