bandersnatch sometimes you just need a good session of feeling sad in order to make the brights brighter.

i am listening to the three perfect songs to envoke that sadness: mad world (donnie darke soundtrack, not crappy 80's pop version), fredric chopin's "noctune fo violin and piano", and schubert's serenade for a piano and violin.

Sonya I think that in order for me to appreciate happiness in my life, a bout of sadness (often accompanied by a good cry, and pink kleenex) is the key.

Without these harder emotional waves to swim through, I highly doubt I would be able to appreciate the simple moments when I simply feel...good. To think of human feeling without encompassing sadness (that is, the "good" kind) is like thinking of strawberry shortcake without the strawberry.
