speed_reading
raze someone i know is hosting this on saturday afternoon, in the university library. it's kind of like speed dating, but with books. you sit across from a stranger, or maybe someone you know, depending. you have four minutes to talk about your reading interests and come up with book suggestions for each other. then you switch, and you do it again, and you keep switching until everyone has talked to everyone and each person has their own collaboratively-created reading list.

i think i might go, even though my own list of books_to_read is already very long and toothy. could be fun.

epitome of incomprehensibility Alas, blather is not this right now.

I mean, my browser gets me to the address fast enough, but it takes almost a minute to get to the "recent" page. With blather blue even the address is slow in loading.

epitome of incomprehensibility This also reminded me of my blind_book_date. Which I rated in the middle, as "Has Potential." Though I like it, because it's too good for me and I can't understand it. Reminds me of the girl I might be arbitrarily fictionalizing as Melodia, and the haughtily cute Austrian grad student who reminded me of Jurgen Habermas. Philosophy of miscommunication. Books are easier to love because you don't expect them to love you back. 140226

e_o_i For a different definition: me, a little earlier, finding a sign with a speed sensor atop it in my neighbourhood (they move them around every few days) and running at it. Made it flash 15 and then 17 km/hr before it flickered off again. 210823

e_o_i It just amuses me that it can register the speed of a running human. 210823

unhinged i read a 700+ page history book about iran, first and last sentences of each paragraph only because as usual my reading eyes were bigger than my reading system and had no hope of finishing before the due date.

i felt like a jerk not giving every detail of the past two thousand years of iranian history the attention i thought they deserved but i learned enough to know that my government is full of shit about iran. and has been for almost a century now, at least.
