entertainment's_impact
Sonya Lately I have been reflecting on the impact entertainment has on our lives. I find that almost every person has an artist, a band, a movie, a book, or even just a song that inspires them...has the capacity to console them, and can even persuade them to take action (for better or worse.)

For me there are movies that I can watch when I'm blue (especially if I'm toilet bowl blue) that are so comforting it feels as if they wrap around me like a warm blanket. Does anyone else experience this? Am I just crazy, or too addicted to film?

Stories can someone to their knees or lift them high up into the clouds. Everytime I go to the movie theater or just curl up in the living room with a video I know I'm in for a rather vicarious experience. Characters are not real...but their aspects can be very real in each of us.

Imagine a world without entertainment. We would not have the 'masterpieces' or 'enlightening', nor would we have the 'trashy', or the 'cheesy'. There would be less discussions, there certainly would be less of those moments where people unite because of one song...or one band...or one movie..or one painting...or one novel they both reach for.

Our capacity to create should never be destroyed.
