sometime between last_night and this_morning it found the strength to stand and moved from the lip of the front lawn to the concrete curb that divides green from grey. i think i saw it raise its porcelain thumb just now, weary but bullish enough to believe in the refuge of the road.

it's still here, comparing scars with a green jeep and a blue bin on wheels, struggling through the second day of this weeklong heat_event, waiting for the offer of a free ride to part the parched lips of some well-meaning stranger.

every time i see this, i think of robert munsch. probably because of "stephanie's ponytail" and the toilet on the cover of "love you forever."

(oh god. that book. i had it when i was a kid, along with a whole pile of his other books. i remember "the paper bag princess", "the boy in the drawer", "i have to go!", "angela's airplane", "50 below zero", and "mortimer". i loved them all. but i don't know if i could get through "love you forever" as a grownup. i think it would obliterate me.)
