i heard a knock at the door so soft it sounded like a small pile of empty cardboard boxes falling over somewhere far away. when i opened it there was a little woman standing there. she looked about seventy, with deep wrinkles set into her face, short hair dyed brown, sunglasses, and a brochure in her hand. she spoke with a thick accent. the only words i could pick out sounded like … knife rack … from the bible … on the internet and i thought, okay. you're trying to sell me a knife rack that has something to do with the bible, and there's more information on the internet. but she didn't ask me to buy anything. she didn't take more than thirty seconds of my time. i accepted the brochure, she thanked me, she told me to have a nice day, and then she turned around and walked away, slowly, gingerly. when i looked at the brochure there was nothing about knives. just some stuff about the bible holding the answers to life's questions, a link to a jehova's witnesses website, and an invitation to request a free bible study. and there on the back, in big bold white letters, encased in blue, were the initials to my name. they didn't mean to be, but they were. what i want to know now is, what was she saying that sounded like "knife rack"?
