raze i don't know how many people have sent me emails they didn't really write. more than a few. the latest bot-generated bits of nothing come from a filmmaker i tracked down and convinced to mail me an impossible-to-find documentary he made about the writer larry brown. for a fee he said he'd include some supplementary materials. what i got: two dvd-rs. the same film burned onto both of them. no bonus footage. no handwritten note. he couldn't even be bothered to scribble the title on the discs. that ran me more than the cost of a new blu-ray set from criterion. you could say i got fleeced. especially now that the whole thing is up on youtube where you can watch it for free. but my man gary's got it worse. his gmail address keeps force-feeding all his friends the promise of a memorable evening that will never be. 261030
