ovenbird A prayer for the feral creatures

May they never blunt their rending claws
May their teeth flash silver
May their tongues speak death to any who would try to crush the bones of their wildness
May they roar and slaver and scream
May dew be the holy water that annoints their brows and a nightjar the whistle that calls them home
May they sleep with the stars pulled up under their chins
Dream the vat of their own power boiling
And wake with firelight raging in their eyes
