per internet robots, a kind_gesture refers to "a kind, thoughtful, or generous action someone has performed. it expresses appreciation and can make the other person feel good for their kindness. the phrase suggests that the act was pleasant, enjoyable, or worthwhile, and that you are happy they did it." "here's why it's used: expressing gratitude: it acknowledges that someone went out of their way to be helpful or kind. boosting morale: it can make the recipient of the gesture feel good and appreciated. adding a touch of politeness: it's a gentle way to show that you recognize and value their actions."

years ago, a person i was close to who lived in chicago, where i had spent some time, sent me a package out of the blue when i was back in toronto. it included a copy of a book i'd somehow lost on the streets of chicago, a pizza cutter (i'd at some point expressed not having one), and a mug with a logo he knew i'd like. another time, i was talking to a person i was close to who lived in florida about how busy i was with work and how i'd be working the whole evening. he deduced that i wouldn't have much time to cook or eat, so he asked me what i wanted from ubereats and ordered me a meal. maybe it's a love language thing, but having someone think of you and make effort for you like that, without being prompted, makes me feel valued. it inspires me to be more like this for others too.
