raze ladybugs keep landing on me lately. one set up shop on the part of my jacket that covers my left wrist and was in no great hurry to leave. one flew right into one of the pockets of my jeans. looking for loose_change, maybe. one walked across my arm before flying away. one explored a length of frayed thread loved off of the band_aid wrapped around my favourite forefinger. grabbed onto it with the feet of both front legs and tried to figure out what it was feeling. meetings like these are said to carry the kiss of good_luck. i hope so. i could use some. 241021

rubydee that neighborhood_cat is back again
meowing at the front door, looking for treats
or breakfast; her mama likes to sleep in.
the twins growl and hiss at her through the glass,
scratching furiously on hind legs
door rattling, squirrels watching from the walkway,
smiling at the ruckus.
when they were kittens last winter we tried letting her inside on the coldest nights, sometime in January.
she’d just fuss and flutter about the house,
so perturbed we’d even think about offering her shelter
in a place with wee hoodlums curiously toddling about, wanting to just love on her like the mother they’d lost.
but no, she was unrelenting. and now they share a size (huge!) and have no interest in making friends any more.
so she eats some aldi junk food equivalent for cats and slinks_off_again, to chase moles and mice and leave their carcasses as offering to the
