raze the very first song of the set. that's what does me in. i'm not partial to the new take on "solsbury hill". i don't think anything beats the original studio recording. and "in your eyes", great as it is, can't match the manic intensity of the seven-minute version from the "so" tour. but the opening salvo justifies the whole enterprise. hearing it isn't enough. you have to see it to really feel it. there's paula standing in for sinead. her dress as black as her untamed mane. there's peter. hair thinning but not yet gone. and what the phone booth he steps out of does to him right when they're about to touch destroys me every time. it's all the pain of being pulled away from someone you love made manifest. if there's a more emotionally resonant use of a prop in a concert film, i don't want to know about it. whatever fear invents, i swear it makes no sense. i reach out through the border fence. come down. come talk_to_me. 260613
