my daughter hilary is showing several of her paintings and her clothing designs @ the upstairs gallery in pittsburgh. the opening is this sunday. she's worked tremendously hard. say a prayer for her that the spark already alight will turn into a fire, burning bright, that many will come to warm themselves around it...

Now that I'm being all birdy (like a comet-tailed ball to be knocked around by rackets), I have to confess I saw a bird I didn't recognize near the lakeshore yesterday. It's not like peacocks just hang around here. But it walked like one, neck craning back and forth. A plump long-necked bird like a large goose, though greyish-brown. Female of the species, probably. I grouse about not knowing, but *was* it a grouse? The Oriole Street of Oriole_Park attaches to Pheasant, but I doubt the area is forested enough to support actual pheasants. Mind you, I've seen odd animals along Lakeshore Road. A red fox. A raccoon. (In some places both would be common, but the usual backyard visitors here are squirrels and rabbits).

Grouses have shorter necks. Juvenile Canada geese might still be babies. I'm guessing a female turkey - I saw another wild turkey in the fall not that far away.
