When
did
you
last
sink
teeth
into
a
paragon
of
sunlight
?
When
did
you
last
siphon
sweetness
straight
from
the
earth
?
When
did
you
last
feel
summer
pooling
in
the
corners
of
your
mouth
?
On
our
way
back
home
,
in
a
yawning
yesteryear,
my
parents
stopped
the
car
at
a
roadside
farm_stand.
We
bought
a
basket
of
peaches
and
ate
them
in
the
dust
. Upon
first
bite
our
pupils dilated.
We
poured
juice
from
our
palms
onto
the
earth
,
a
libation
to
the
soil
that
grew
such
wonders.
I
have
never
found
a
peach
like
that
again
but
my
tongue
took
a
polaroid
that
it
keeps
taped
to
the
mirror
and
stares
at
longingly
every
night
.
You
never
forget
your
first
love
.
Nothing
ever
quite
tastes
the
same
.
