peach
ovenbird When did you last sink teeth into a paragon of sunlight? When did you last siphon sweetness straight from the earth? When did you last feel summer pooling in the corners of your mouth? On our way back home, in a yawning yesteryear, my parents stopped the car at a roadside farm_stand. We bought a basket of peaches and ate them in the dust. Upon first bite our pupils dilated. We poured juice from our palms onto the earth, a libation to the soil that grew such wonders. I have never found a peach like that again but my tongue took a polaroid that it keeps taped to the mirror and stares at longingly every night. You never forget your first love. Nothing ever quite tastes the same. 250612
